I Got A 'D' In Salami, By Henry Winkler And Lin Oliver

I wish we'd known that our son was dyslexic before he reached secondary school. I wish too that if we had, I Got a 'D' in Salami would have been available for us to read to him. Our son had a rough ride from one particular teacher when he was in junior school. He was thought to be a dreamer, or lazy, when all the time he worked so hard, as we could see. When it came to the crunch his short-term memory let him down, again and again. He was humiliated by that one teacher.
Hank Zipzer, the hero of I Got A 'D' in Salami, like our son, has good friends but a not so aware teacher. And there is the usual class bully too. Hank is chaotic but caring. The scrapes he gets in to are hilarious. He gets Ds on his report card. Another D - despair. But carry on with his story - like my son, Hank wins through.
