How To Control Anger:
3 Powerful Techniques

How To Control Anger,
Introduction

We've all had times when anger's got out of hand; it affects not only ourselves but those who matter to us the most.

Fortunately, there are some great anger management self help tools out there which can help dissolve these feelings and deal with the underlying issues that are causing them.

I've introduced 3 of the best anger management self help tools below. If you'd like to find out more about any one in particular, I've provided a link for further information at the end of each section :-)

How To Control Anger,
Technique 1: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is an excellent all-round self help tool that can be applied by anyone to themselves in the comfort of their own homes.

Some say EFT is 'like acupuncture without the needles'. In fact, you use your fingers to 'tap' on certain parts of the body whilst repeating phrases based on whatever you're trying to resolve. This process is thought to balance those disruptions in the body's energy system which are the causing the anger.

Whilst that might sound like fantasy talk, I've been using EFT since 2006 for my own benefit and for that of friends and family members. In my experience, it can be very effective for overcoming a wide range of emotional and physical issues, especially as an anger management self help tool. Better yet, it's easy to learn by yourself.

Particularly strong emotions sometimes require a bit of persistence, because the root of the issue may be hidden beneath several 'layers' of emotion which need to be tapped through first.

Having said that, it's not uncommon for people to be able to gain partial or complete relief from a feeling of anger within minutes.

How To Control Anger,
Technique 2: The Sedona Method

Whilst EFT can work wonders with all sorts of emotional issues, it does involve tapping certain parts of your body whilst repeating phrases out-loud.

Not exactly ideal for a work environment then ;-)

However, The Sedona Method is ideal if you're looking for an anger management self help tool that can be used in public without getting funny looks!

The technique involves learning how to release emotions without physically doing anything with your body or speaking out loud. You simply go through a step-by-step thought process whenever you want to release a particular feeling.

Using The Sedona Method is simple, and once you've become familiar with the process you can use it without anyone else knowing what you're doing.

How To Control Anger,
Technique 3: Meditation

Last but by no means least is meditation. This is the long-term option for anger management self help. What do I mean by that? Well, in my experience, meditation isn't something that provides instantaneous results within a very short space of time, at least not in the way that EFT and The Sedona Method can.

However, by practising meditation in the long term (over a period of years), you may start to experience some very profound benefits, easily as much as you would with any other technique on this website.

The thing with meditation is that the results come around gradually, but they do so across the board. In other words, meditation won't just teach you how to control anger, it will help you become less reactive to negative emotions in general.

For example, let's say you have a big argument with a friend. A few months ago, this would have been bothering you for at least 3 days after the event. However, since you've been doing a little daily meditation for the last few months, the same scenario now only bothers you for a single day. Within another few months' practice, it might only bother you for half a day before the feeling of anger subsides (and so on).

I must stress the example above is just that (an example); results will vary from person to person. But the principle stands. Meditation can be great for long term personal development and - to put it simply - can help make your world a much lighter place!

How To Control Anger,
Conclusion

Each one of these anger management self help tools suits a slightly different need. If you want to deal with anger in the comfort of your own home, EFT is ideal, whilst you can use The Sedona Method without anyone else knowing what you're doing.

Finally there's meditation; an outstanding tool for long term self improvement if you're looking to become less reactive toward negative emotions as a whole.

Anyway, that just about sums up this article! I hope these anger management self help tools will help you lead a more stress free life in general. Good luck!
