A Life That Counts, By Jeremy Rolleston

Sportsman Jeremy Rolleston is well qualified to write a book about success.

The two-time Olympian represented Australia twice in bobsleigh following an international career in rugby and whilst maintaining a successful career in investment banking. But at the XXI Vancouver Winter Games, a freak accident saw Jeremy and teammate plummet down a deadly icy track – one that had claimed the life of a Georgian athlete just days before – upside down and at speeds of more than 100km an hour. His Olympic dream was shattered.

Jeremy returned home to Australia devastated but a year on, his Olympic disappointment has led to a different an unexpected place - he has just released his first book, A Life That Counts.

Part biography of some of Australia's most famous and successful personalities, part handbook for achieving success, A Life That Counts does what other titles on the subject fail to do; it backs up the inspirational examples and wisdom of these famous high-achievers with the practical tools that the reader can implement in their everyday life in order to pursue their dreams.

It doesn't just tell you what to do but, just as importantly, reveals how to do it.

The ten high-achieving contributors herald from both the worlds of sport and business and include Olympic champions, World champions and Australians of the Year.

They include the likes of Dick Smith, Lydia Lassila, Gai Waterhouse, Matthew Burke, James Tomkins, Louise Sauvage, Michael Milton, Matt Shirvington, Jason Stevens and Alexandra Croak. The book shares the secrets, tools and techniques that helped these remarkable Australians achieve greatness - covering areas like daring to dream, motivation, goal-setting, daily process, the psychology of success, developing belief, and overcoming setbacks.

Just as importantly though, the book builds a rare picture of the consistent dedication, unflagging persistence, and gruelling hard work that went on behind the scenes in thee contributor's lives - a picture that few ever see.

Some of the exclusive insights in A Life That Counts include:

  • Dick Smith talks about the importance of asking for advice.

  • Matt Shirvington discusses regret, and shares his thoughts on his failure to become the first white man to break 10.00s in the 100m.

  • World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Michael Milton shares about knowing your ‘why’, and how his battle with cancer spurred him on to greater success.

  • Olympic Gold medallist Lydia Lassila shares her insights on goal setting, delayed gratification and visualisation.

  • Champion horse-trainer Gai Waterhouse talks about the fear of failure she faced and confronted.

  • Six-time Olympian and three-time Olympic Gold medallist James Tomkins talks about the daily training approach of the 'Oarsome Foursome'.

  • Jeremy Rolleston discusses the crucial difference between disappointment and regret.

Whatever your dreams, whatever your age, and whatever your situation, A LIFE THAT COUNTS will provide you with an exciting vision of your potential, along with the confidence, knowledge and tools you need to successfully follow your dreams and live an extraordinary, fulfilled and purposeful life.

A Life That Counts, by Jeremy Rolleston (Rollo Publishing, $29.95), is available in good bookstores around Australia, or you can order online from www.alifethatcounts.com.au.
